On Thursday, March 4, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis held a meeting with Detlef Weigel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany during his farewell visit. Both parties discussed bilateral cooperation, especially in economics, as well as the economic situation in Latvia.
V.Dombrovskis thanked the German Ambassador for his personal contribution in strengthening bilateral relations of both countries. D. Weigel expressed his gratitude for the progress made and acknowledged that a good cooperation with the Latvian Government and the ministries has been established which should be continued.
The Prime Minister emphasized that close cooperation with Germany is one of Latvia’s foreign policy priorities. Therefore, Latvia is interested in a dynamic political dialogue. V.Dombrovskis acknowledged that close cooperation with Germany is realized also in the area of economics and culture. Germany is one of the most important trade partners and largest investors in Latvia.
The Ambassador of Germany mentioned that Germany’s business interests have always been in medium or long-term cooperation. D.Weigel stressed that the economic cooperation of Germany and Latvia continues also during the economic crisis.
The Prime Minister and the Ambassador of Germany discussed Latvia’s economic situation, the first signs of stabilization and future structural reforms, as well as measures for growth of national economy.
