Get acquainted with the policy-making process and know your opportunities!
Policy-making is a complex and time-consuming process, and not always citizens and representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have the opportunity to participate in all its stages. Nevertheless, it is important that the public is aware of its opportunities and knows all institutions involved in the policy process.
Taking into account their resources, in each stage of the policy-making citizens and representatives of NGOs can choose the most appropriate type of involvement.
Every member of the society has the opportunity to participate in the policy-making process. However, more active citizens, representatives of the society who have joined together in NGOs to protect their interests and voice their opinion have better opportunities to influence the decision-making process. For this reason, the term “non-governmental organisations (NGOs)” is used hereafter in the text, because it is assumed that NGOs represent the more active part of the society, who is interested in getting involved.
