M. Kučinskis: It is only by working together that we will be able to address global challenges
On Thursday 25 January, Māris Kučinskis met with Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Davos.
During the meeting, A. Gurría was informed that the issues raised in the OECD Economic Review on Latvia are at the centre of Latvia's political debate: It is about the areas such as productivity, access to health services, and educational reform.
This year, a number of evaluations are carried out in cooperation with the OECD in the areas of importance for Latvia: evaluation of service quality of the judicial system (commercial law), assessment of the Latvian pension system, as well as the study on "Inclusion of the Population in the Labour Market". Latvia is also planning to become involved in the Survey of Adult Skills of the OECD Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC).
During the meeting, the officials also discussed the upcoming OECD Ministerial Conference. Latvia has been entrusted with the duties of a vice-presiding country. M.Kučinskis confirmed that he will attend this conference. As agreed in Rīga, this will also be an opportunity to present Latvia's reform experience within the framework of the OECD. "We support the theme of the meeting on multilateralism. It is only by working together that we will be able to address global challenges. The OECD is a good platform to do this, "said M. Kučinskis.
France will be the presiding country of the OECD Ministerial Meeting while New Zealand will be the second vice- presiding country.
The meeting of the Prime Minister and OECD Secretary-General took place within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
