On Wednesday 29 March, Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis held a meeting with Milan Brglez, President of the National Assembly of Slovenia in Rīga.

During the meeting, the officials addressed the issues relating to bilateral relations, security policy, as well as the future of Europe.

M. Kučinskis welcomed Slovenia's contribution to the strengthening of security in our region, by sending troops to Latvia in the NATO-led Canadian battle group.

As regards the future of Europe, the two officials stressed the symbolic importance of the Rome summit. They pointed out that it sent a message of unity among the EU-27 and willingness to further develop the EU project. Both sides shared the view that the EU should develop as a strong and united union of states.

Latvia is ready to discuss the EU's future development, desiring to preserve the positive results achieved. The scenario that provides for closer cooperation among one group of Member States is not excluded. "Latvia believes that the common vision for the future of the EU should be based on three pillars: values - human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law; human rights; security; prosperity, economic growth," said M. Kučinskis.
