Cabinet of Ministers is a collegial institution, which adopts its decisions at the sittings of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Cabinet of Ministers, within the scope of its competence, considers policy planning documents, external and internal legal acts, orders of the Cabinet of Ministers, informative statements, national positions and official opinions of the State. Upon approval by the Cabinet of Ministers, all legal acts are published in the official newspaper “Latvijas Vēstnesis”.
Cabinet sittings usually take place once a week (on Tuesdays), and the sittings are chaired by the Prime Minister.
On the assignment of the Prime Minister the Director of the State Chancellery announces the Cabinet sitting, and all member of the Cabinet of Ministers, as well as officials as provided in the laws (Prosecutor General, State Auditor, President of the Bank of Latvia, Chairperson of the Public Services Regulatory Committee, Latvia’s representative in the Court of Justice of the European Communities and persons invited by the Prime Minister (for consideration of a specific issue in the agenda).
Cabinet sittings are open to the public; representatives of mass media and NGOs are allowed to participate.
