On Friday 7 July, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš accepted the resignation of Edgars Rinkēvičs, Minister for Foreign Affairs as he assumed the office of the President as of Saturday 8 July.
The Prime Minister will undertake the duties of the Minister as of Saturday 8 July and until the approval of the new Minister for Foreign Affairs by the Saeima.
The President Egils Levits and Speaker of the Saeima Edvards Smiltēns have been informed of the decision.
