On Friday, August 26 and on Saturday, August 27, Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis visited two cities in Latgale – Daugavpils and Krāslava, and held an informal meeting with Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas and Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius.

Within the framework of the meeting, the three officials discussed the issues relating to the situation in the region and in Europe as a whole, the future of Europe after the UK's referendum on its withdrawal from the European Union, the results of the NATO summit held this summer, as well as other developments.

M. Kučinskis, T. Rõivas and A. Butkevičius also met Daugavpils Mayor Jānis Lāčplēsis and Chairman of Krāslava County Council Gunārs Upenieks.

The heads of government of three Baltic States visited companies, educational establishments and cultural sites of the two local governments – the farm "Liepas", Daugavpils University, Mark Rothko Art Centre and others.

The Prime Minister acknowledges that the informal meeting was useful as it provided the opportunity to better understand each other's attitude towards the issues that are vital for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as well as for Europe as a whole.

It is planned that such meetings will also be held in the coming years.

The informal meeting of the Prime Ministers of Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania is a traditional event, held annually in one of the three Baltic States.
