Tikšanās ar ANO Ģenerālās Asamblejas 78. sesijas prezidentu Denisu Fransisu

Latvia is a reliable and active member of the United Nations and is ready to contribute to international peace, development and resilience. This was underlined by Evika Siliņa, Prime Minister of Latvia, during a meeting with Dennis Francis, President of the UN General Assembly, at the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday 5 July.

E. Siliņa recalled her visit to the UN in New York this year and expressed her satisfaction over the ongoing partnership between Latvia and the UN also during the visit of the President of the UN General Assembly to Latvia.

"Latvia is a reliable and active member of the UN and is ready to contribute to international peace, development and resilience. Latvia, as a small country, must not be passive or silent in international relations. We are aware of the vital importance of sustainable development, the fight against climate change and protection of human rights, which are also very much in line with the priorities of the Government of Latvia," said Prime Minister E. Siliņa.

The Prime Minister also underlined, "Latvia has vast experience in implementing reforms, and is ready to share its knowledge with other countries, especially in the areas such as digital solutions and women's rights. Latvia is also actively pursuing this on the way to becoming a member of the UN Security Council from 2026 to 2027".

The President of the UN General Assembly, Denis Francis, is from Trinidad and Tobago. At the beginning of the meeting, E. Siliņa extended her solidarity in relation to the hurricane that has severely devastated the Caribbean region. The Prime Minister also expressed her interest in continuing bilateral dialogue and cooperation with Trinidad and Tobago, including in the fields of tourism, higher education and digital solutions.
