On Wednesday 6 December, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa met with Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Anatolii Kutsevol. During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that Latvia will maintain its support to Ukraine until and after its victory.
Latvia will continue providing support to practically strengthen Ukraine’s defence capabilities to resist Russia’s aggression by supporting Ukraine with the necessary arms, equipment and training. In winter, Latvia also provides practical assistance to Ukraine in the field of energy. The current support of Latvia to Ukraine amounts to EUR 587 million.
The officials also discussed current developments in cooperation between Latvia and Ukraine, outlining plans for the year 2024. E. Siliņa reaffirmed Latvia’s position that Russia must immediately stop its aggression against Ukraine and that Russian troops must withdraw from Ukraine’s internationally recognised territory.
The Prime Minister pointed out that not only the government, but also society as a whole actively support the Ukrainian people. “Today marks the 651st day of war. I am grateful to every citizen who continues to provide support to Ukraine and Ukrainians,” said E. Siliņa.
Latvia will further support Ukraine on an international scale, both within the EU, NATO and globally. Latvia will advocate the European Commission’s recommendation to start negotiations with Ukraine, as well as the continuation of the EU financial support to Ukraine at the upcoming European Council meeting in December.
