On Thursday 15 December, Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis called on the Heads of State and Government to strengthen the EU capacity for strategic communication at the European Council meeting.
The issue was raised when discussing the EU-NATO cooperation.
M. Kučinskis indicated that considering the complex nature of today’s security challenges, particular attention should be paid to hybrid threats, cyber threats and disinformation.
The Prime Minister’s call was supported by German chancellor Angela Merkel and Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas.
Following this call, the need to strengthen strategic communication is included in the European Council conclusions on the EU-NATO cooperation.
As reported, Prime Minister M. Kučinskis will discuss the issues relating to migration, security, economic and social development, as well as external relations at the European Council meeting on 15 December that is held for the last time this year.
