On Wednesday 6 July, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš held a final meeting with President Egils Levits, whose term of office will expire on 8 July, when the newly elected President Edgars Rinkēvičs will take the solemn oath at the extraordinary sitting of the Saeima.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to President of Latvia Egils Levits for work carried out for the State and cooperation for four years.
“Over the past four years, we had to overcome the challenges posed by the pandemics, which many of us have already forgotten, the hybrid threats by Belarus against Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, which are, unfortunately, still present and Russia’s open and brutal war in Ukraine and its economic consequences, as well as energy crisis. We have overcome all these challenges. As regards the situation in the region, Latvia has maintained internal stability, and the President of Latvia has also provided a major contribution,” emphasised K. Kariņš.
