On 6 December, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš held a meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki. The officials discussed bilateral relations between the two countries, economic cooperation and regional cooperation in the field of security, as well as the implementation of infrastructure projects.
The Prime Minister highlighted the good bilateral relations between the two countries. The countries are like-minded and close partners in the European Union and NATO. K. Kariņš appreciated Poland's contribution to the strengthening of Latvia's security, given that the Polish soldiers serve in the NATO battle group in Latvia.
Due consideration was given to economic relations. Poland is an important foreign trade partner of Latvia, and Latvia is open to even more extensive cooperation.
K.Kariņš stressed that Poland's support and active participation are essential for the success of the Rail Baltica project. The Prime Ministers also discussed the opportunities for developing the Via Baltica digital (5G) corridor and cooperation in more extensive use of digital technologies.
K.Kariņš and M.Morawiecki also discussed cooperation in the field of energy, in the light of Poland’s key role in the process of synchronizing the Baltic States’ electricity networks with the EU and establishing a regional gas market.
