Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš met with President Edgars Rinkēvičs on Thursday 17 August. During the meeting, the Prime Minister submitted the letter of government’s resignation to the President. K. Kariņš extends gratitude to the society and voters for the opportunity to perform the duties of the head of government.
The Prime Minister expresses appreciation to three Presidents of Latvia – Raimonds Vējonis, Egils Levits and Edgars Rinkēvičs – for the opportunity to cooperate, all ministers who worked in his two governments and colleagues in the Saeima. K. Kariņš thanks his family, that most felt what this work required.
The Prime Minister informed that the “New Unity” - the political power he represents, has nominated a new candidate for the Prime Minister’s post, the current Minister of Welfare Evika Siliņa. K. Kariņš pointed out that if the President promotes E. Siliņa as a candidate for the Prime Minister’s post, he is confident that E. Siliņa will soon form a strong government with broad support in the Saeima.
