--

On Friday 28 October, Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur.

During the meeting, M. Kučinskis highlighted the need to continue work on the development of both countries’ economic cooperation. The Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Cooperation Council for Economic Cooperation, which was established this year, should be used to attain this objective.

The Prime Minister confirmed that Latvia actively supports and will continue to support the Moldova’s reform process within the framework of development cooperation. In recent years, the main areas of cooperation were: regional and rural development, good governance, the rule of law, border security, the area of justice, implementation of phytosanitary standards.

One of the foreign policy priorities of European Union (EU) is the Eastern Partnership (EaP), which also includes Moldova. When preparing for the next EaP Summit, Moldova has to continue the implementation of the Riga Summit Declaration.

Latvia calls on Moldova to carry out the necessary reforms and conclude, without delay, the agreement with the International Monetary Fund in order to restore the EU's financial assistance to Moldova.
