On Tuesday 31 January, Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis will pay a visit to Tallinn – the capital city of Estonia to take part in the meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers.

It is expected that the trilateral agreement on further progress of the Rail Baltica project will be signed at the meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers, and the prime ministers will discuss future development of transport connections.

The Cabinet of Ministers supported the draft law on the agreement between the Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian governments on the development of the Rail Baltica railway connection at its meeting of 24 January. When the contract is signed in Tallinn, it is intended to be submitted to the Saeima for ratification.

The meeting of the Latvian Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis, Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas and Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis with President of the European Council Donald Tusk is also scheduled. During the meeting, the officials will discuss the issues relating to the preparations for the Malta and Rome Summits of the EU Council, the prospects for cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries, as well as European security and defence policy.

The Baltic Council of Ministers will also address the strengthening of security in the region, as well as the development of the energy market.
