On Wednesday, January 13, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Timo Soini discussed the excellent bilateral cooperation and dialogue between the Baltic and Nordic countries.
The two sides expressed satisfaction with the growing investment volume and opening of new manufacturing sites in Latvia and Finland. This year, Latvia is a presiding country of the Baltic Council of Ministers while Finland – within the framework of the Baltic and Nordic countries or NB8. According to L.Straujuma and T.Soini, it provides additional platforms for active cooperation.
During the discussion, the officials also focused on recent challenges posed by migration in Finland. T.Soini noted that a comprehensive EU’s response to migration problems is needed. The Prime Minister agreed with T.Soini and stressed the need to further strengthen the EU’s external borders.
