The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has this year updated its Guidelines on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises 2024 to improve their efficiency, transparency and sustainability. Policy makers, representatives of capital companies and industry experts from across the Baltic States will meet in Rīga on 26 November to promote the implementation of these guidelines, discuss their benefits and impact on the development of the sector.
Since their initial adoption in 2005, the OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of State-Owned Enterprises have become a benchmark for strengthening effective governance of state-owned enterprises. The updated Guidelines highlight the growing role of capital companies owned by public persons in the economy, emphasising transparency, accountability and sustainability. The Guidelines promote the operation of capital companies owned by public persons in line with standards of the private sector, thereby fostering fair competition and sustainable development.
The conference will focus on the updated principles of the Guidelines and their implications on capital companies in the Baltic States. The main topics of the conference programme include:
- Overview of the updated OECD Guidelines and global trends – OECD experts will present the latest trends in governance of state-owned enterprises.
- Improvements in corporate governance and future challenges – policy makers from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will share their experiences and priorities for the future.
- The role of capital companies in sustainable governance – the panel will discuss the role of supervisory boards in implementing sustainability objectives and promoting responsible business practices.
The conference will be opened by a video address by Evika Siliņa, Prime Minister of Latvia, Raivis Kronbergs, Director of the State Chancellery and Rytis Ambrazevičius, President of the Baltic Institute of Corporate Governance.
