In order to limit the risks of the spread of Covid-19, especially its new strains, and to prevent a rapid deterioration of the epidemiological situation, the government has decided to extend the existing entry restrictions.
The entry restrictions will stay in force until the end of the state of emergency on 6 April. It will be allowed to enter Latvia only for urgent and important reasons, such as:
- work,
- training, studies,
- family reunion,
- receiving medical services,
- transit,
- escorting minors,
- returning to a permanent place of residence,
- funeral.
Currently, a new strain of the virus is widespread in the countries of the European Union, which is 30 times more infectious, and easing the entry rules could cause a rapid spreading of the virus in Latvia.
During the last week, 8 cases of the new type of Covid-19 have been registered in Latvia, but as the prevalence of the new types of the virus increases, there is a possibility that the number of inpatient Covid-19 patients will triple in the next few weeks.
More information on entry conditions and requirements is available on the website of the Ministry of Transport.
